Early Monday, a Russian official reported the destruction of a power plant in the Oryol region due to a Ukrainian drone attack.
The Governor of Oryol confirmed the incident on his Telegram channel, stating the drone strike caused substantial damage to the facility but fortunately did not result in any casualties or loss of life. The exact number of drones involved in the attack remains unclear.
In related developments, the Defense Ministry announced on Sunday the capture of two new towns in Eastern Ukraine, indicating a steady Russian advance despite facing a numerically and logistically superior Ukrainian army.
The towns of Progress and Yevgenievka, located in the Donetsk region where most of the conflict is concentrated, were mentioned in the Ministry’s daily report as having been liberated by units from the Central Force Group during active operations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged in his daily video message the pressures faced by his forces in the Donetsk region, highlighting the significant challenges at the Bokrovsk front.
He emphasised that those repelling these intense Russian attacks are fulfilling one of the most critical missions in this conflict.
The Russian military also reported the recent takeover of the village of Luzovatsky in the same region, marking further territorial gains since the Ukrainian counter-offensive failed in the summer of 2023 and the fall of Avdiivka in February.
The Russian forces continue to challenge a Ukrainian army struggling with weapon and ammunition shortages as Western aid diminishes and recruitment woes persist.
This ongoing conflict underscores the severe and complex dynamics of the war, with both sides experiencing fluctuating fortunes on the battlefield.
