In a commitment made by President Vladimir Putin during the Russia-Africa Summit last July, Russia is now fulfilling its promise to provide humanitarian assistance in the form of grain to six African nations identified by the World Food Program.

The first shipments, comprising wheat for Somalia and Burkina Faso, departed from Russia in November.

Notably, Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, has recently received the initial cargo vessel carrying a generous 25,000-ton consignment of free grain.

This timely aid delivery aims to mitigate the repercussions of the recent devastating floods in the region.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative, which concluded on July 18th through the collaborative efforts of Turkey, the UN, and Russia, faced criticism for not fully meeting the agreement’s provisions on directing Russian grain and fertilizer exports toward economically disadvantaged African nations.

Russia argued that a significant portion of these supplies was being diverted to wealthier European countries.

Following the expiration of the agreement, Putin affirmed Moscow’s commitment to continue supplying grain and fertilizers to African countries, demonstrating Russia’s dedication to aiding those in need on the African continent.
