Russia has announced its intention to pursue legal action in international courts regarding counterterrorism efforts, following the submission of a memorandum to Ukrainian authorities.
Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed this development in an interview with the first Russian television channel on Monday.
“We intend to resort to international courts regarding counterterrorism,” Zakharova stated.
She further elaborated, “Documents relevant to this matter are currently being prepared, as our country takes appropriate mandatory measures.”
Earlier today, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russia had recently delivered a memorandum on counterterrorism to Ukraine through a channel between the two countries, passing through Minsk.
Relations between Russia and Ukraine have been tense for years, particularly since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatists continue to fight against Ukrainian government forces.
Counterterrorism efforts have become a significant point of contention between the two nations, with accusations and counter-accusations of supporting terrorism and insurgency.
This move by Russia to seek legal action in international courts underscores the complexity and sensitivity of the situation, with both sides seeking to assert their positions on the global stage.
