Doctors in Russia have achieved the first successful lung transplant in the country at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute.

The recipient had been suffering from respiratory issues for 11 years.

According to the institute’s deputy dean for scientific affairs, who relayed her words to Moscow’s mayor, the medical team at the institute managed to overcome all the challenges related to the transplant.

The patient who underwent the procedure is now in good health.

As per the institute’s report, the patient had been dealing with air sacs in both lungs for 11 years.

In 2013, the patient started experiencing breathing difficulties, and in 2018, they were placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant.

The report explains that last August, the institute’s doctors found a donor willing to donate their lung.

The lung transplant procedure was successfully conducted under the close supervision of researchers at the institute and took nine hours to complete.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in Russia’s medical field and provides hope for patients suffering from severe lung conditions in the country.

It also highlights the importance of organ donation and the potential for saving lives through such procedures.
