Russia has launched waves of drone attacks on various parts of Ukraine, following the significant loss it suffered on August 6, when Ukrainian forces unexpectedly advanced into the Kursk region, seizing large areas.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced on Saturday that they had shot down 24 out of 52 drones launched by Russia in overnight attacks targeting eight regions across the country. The statement on Telegram added that 25 Iranian-made Shahed drones crashed on their own, while three others flew towards Russia and Belarus.
Officials in Kyiv reported that this was the fourth drone attack on the capital in recent days, with air raid sirens blaring for about four hours. They confirmed that all drones targeting the city were successfully intercepted.
Additionally, Ukrainian air defenses also downed Russian drones in the central regions of Poltava, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as in the northern regions of Chernihiv and Sumy, and the southern region of Mykolaiv.
Meanwhile, Russian forces have begun pressing toward the strategic center in the city of Pokrovsk, a key transportation hub in eastern Ukraine, and have taken control of the town of Kirovo in Donetsk. Russia also launched its largest wave of airstrikes across Ukraine.
Ukraine used electronic warfare, mobile pursuit teams, and air defenses to repel the repeated Russian drone and missile strikes.
