Gazprom, Russia’s leading energy company, recently achieved a new milestone by recording its highest daily gas delivery to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline, as announced by the company this Saturday.
This significant flow of natural gas to China is part of a long-standing agreement with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), under a 30-year deal worth $400 billion, signed in 2014 between Gazprom and CNPC.
The company, in a statement on its Telegram channel, reported that on November 23, gas deliveries through the Power of Siberia exceeded the day’s contractual requirements, marking a new record in daily gas supply to China.
The Power of Siberia pipeline, a major element of the Eastern Route, is currently the primary conduit for Russian gas to China. Initiated in December 2019, it was the first pipeline to start delivering Russian gas to its neighboring country.
In 2021, Russia supplied China with 15.5 billion cubic meters of gas through this pipeline, which has a total annual capacity of 38 billion cubic meters.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has indicated that gas supplies to China via this route are expected to reach 22 billion cubic meters this year. This increase is part of Russia’s ongoing efforts to enhance its energy collaboration with Beijing.
