Russia’s army announced on Thursday that it had captured another village in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, marking the latest territorial gain for Moscow’s forces.
The Russian defense ministry stated that its troops had “liberated the village of Voskhod,” situated around 30 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Donetsk city, the capital of a region that Moscow claims to have annexed.
Kyiv reports that the fiercest fighting along the frontline is occurring in the Donetsk region.
Recently, Russia has claimed to take a series of villages and settlements, many of which consist of only a few streets and a handful of abandoned buildings.
Despite these advances, neither side has achieved a decisive breakthrough.
Both Moscow and Kyiv report inflicting heavy casualties on each other, nearly two and a half years after Russia launched its offensive.
Kyiv is hopeful that new supplies of Western arms arriving on the battlefield will bolster its troops, who are currently outgunned and outmanned, in resisting Russian pressure.
