Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called upon the international community to collaborate in ending colonial dependence in 17 territories worldwide.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Forum of Supporters for the Fight against Modern Neo-Colonialist Practices, Lavrov emphasized the need for common global approaches to understanding neocolonialism and completing the decolonization efforts initiated by Soviet diplomacy. Despite relevant United Nations resolutions, 17 territories remain in colonial dependence, with their parent countries showing reluctance to comply.

Lavrov also urged responsible members of the world community to champion justice in global affairs and highlighted the establishment of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations for this purpose. He called on forum participants to support the group’s activities.

The Forum of Supporters for the Fight against Modern Neo-Colonialist Practices, organized by Russia’s ruling United Russia party, is currently taking place in Moscow. The event, attended by around 400 delegates representing political forces from various regions, aims to address interference into sovereign affairs, combat destructive neocolonial practices, and discuss issues of independence in political, financial, economic, information, and other spheres.
