QatarEnergy announced on Tuesday the signing of a long-term agreement to supply 7.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Petronet LNG India Limited (PLL) for a period of 20 years.
The LNG will be supplied to various receiving terminals in India on board Qatari LNG vessels starting from May 2028.
Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the Managing Director and CEO of QatarEnergy, said: “This agreement is another milestone in the long-standing energy partnership between Qatar and India, and comes on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the first LNG cargo delivery to India.”
Al Kaabi added: “This new partnership with our esteemed customers PLL and its shareholders will play an important role in further strengthening our relationship with India and supporting its vision to increase the share of natural gas in the Indian energy mix.”
In 1999, Petronet signed its first LNG import agreement with Qatar for 7.5 mtpa, followed by another agreement in 2015 to supply an additional 1 mtpa, bringing the total contracted volumes between the two parties to 8.5 mtpa.
