Vladimir Putin has secured victory in the Russian presidential elections, garnering at least 87% of the votes, according to expectations following the closure of polling stations, as reported by Russian official media outlets.
Russian state television announced that Putin, aged 71, emerged as the winner of the elections, securing a fifth presidential term on Sunday, based on numerous voter opinion polls.
No genuine opposition candidate was allowed to contest in the elections, which were conducted over three days, and international observers did not monitor the elections, held across the vast expanse of Russia spanning 11 time zones.
The voting process for Putin’s fifth term in office witnessed multiple protests, with preliminary results expected to be announced later on Sunday evening. The first genuine election results will be available tomorrow, Monday.
Meanwhile, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev extended his congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his victory in the presidential elections.
In a post on Telegram, Medvedev stated, “I congratulate Vladimir Putin on his magnificent victory in the elections.”
