Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed on Friday that a significant milestone had been achieved in the modernization of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces. In a statement released on Defender of the Fatherland Day, a day dedicated to honoring the country’s military, Putin announced that 95% of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces had been successfully modernized.

The President noted that the Air Force had recently taken delivery of four new supersonic nuclear-capable bombers, highlighting the continuous efforts to enhance Russia’s military capabilities. Putin’s statement coincided with his participation in an event where he flew on a modernized Tu-160M nuclear-capable strategic bomber.

While praising soldiers engaged in what he referred to as a “special military operation” in Ukraine, Putin dedicated a significant portion of his speech to laud the achievements of the military-industrial complex. He emphasized the importance of keeping Russia’s nuclear triad—comprising strategic land, sea, and air nuclear capabilities—constantly modernized and in good order.

Putin stated, “Incorporating our real combat experience, we will continue to strengthen the Armed Forces in every possible way, including ongoing re-equipping and modernization efforts.” He highlighted that the share of modern weapons and equipment in the strategic nuclear forces had reached 95%, and the naval component of the ‘nuclear triad’ was nearly at 100%.

The President’s announcement reflects Russia’s commitment to maintaining a technologically advanced and formidable military presence on the global stage. The delivery of new supersonic bombers and the impressive modernization statistics underscore the nation’s focus on enhancing its defense capabilities in an evolving geopolitical landscape.
