Palestine has formally requested an emergency session of the Arab League to address the ongoing atrocities committed by the occupation forces in Gaza.
Ambassador Mahend Al-Aklouk, Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, announced the urgent call, emphasizing the need for immediate action amidst the relentless campaign of genocide, starvation policies, and forced displacement perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people.
In a statement relayed by the Palestinian news agency WAFA on Monday, Al-Aklouk stated that Palestine has submitted the request for the extraordinary session of the Council of the League at the level of permanent representatives at the earliest opportunity.
The aim is to discuss the Arab and international response in light of Israel’s continuous threats of an imminent invasion of the city of Rafah, which currently shelters over 1.5 million displaced persons and Palestinian citizens.
Al-Aklouk further highlighted Israel’s obstinacy and refusal to abide by relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
He cited Resolution 2728, the latest of these resolutions, which called for an immediate cessation of hostilities during the holy month of Ramadan.
Moreover, the Council will address Israel’s non-compliance with interim measures mandated by the International Court of Justice on January 26, 2024, and March 28, 2024, emphasizing the urgency of holding Israel accountable for its flagrant violations of international law.
The call for an emergency meeting underscores Palestine’s commitment to mobilizing Arab and international support to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to ensure the protection and rights of the Palestinian people in the face of relentless aggression and injustice.
