The Russian Presidency (Kremlin) has officially announced an upcoming visit by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the Russian Federation.
This visit comes as a response to an invitation extended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it is expected to take place in the coming days.
In a statement released on its official website today, the Kremlin stated, “In response to an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un, the representative of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, will make an official visit to Russia in the coming days.”
This visit holds significant diplomatic importance as it signifies a willingness from both sides to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss various areas of cooperation.
Kim’s intentions to enhance military and security collaboration between Moscow and Pyongyang were reaffirmed during his meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu last month.
Kang Son Nam, the North Korean Defense Minister, mentioned that Kim emphasized the importance of bolstering strategic cooperation and interaction in the defense and security domains during his participation in the 11th Moscow International Security Conference on August 15.
Shoigu’s visit to North Korea provided an opportunity for discussions on security and defense-related matters, along with exploring avenues for strategic cooperation between the two nations.
