In a continuation of escalating tensions between North and South Korea, North Korea announced on Monday that it has deployed 250 new-generation tactical rocket launchers to its forces stationed along the Korean border.
This move comes as Seoul has resumed its anti-Kim Jong Un propaganda broadcasts via loudspeakers.
The official North Korean news agency reported that the “ceremony of transferring 250 new-generation tactical rocket launchers to the military forces on the border” was held in Pyongyang under the supervision of leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim described these devices as “updated tactical offensive weapons” that he personally designed.
In his speech, Kim stated that revealing these new weapons while the country faces flood damages “indicates our party’s firm will to continue enhancing our defensive capabilities,” according to the official news agency.
Pyongyang is bolstering its military capabilities on the border in response to Seoul’s resumption of loudspeaker propaganda campaigns against the North Korean regime.
Despite the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 ending with an armistice, not a peace treaty, North and South Korea remained technically at war.
The loudspeaker propaganda campaign, which dates back to the Korean War era, has provoked Pyongyang, which has previously threatened to target South Korean loudspeakers with its artillery.
