New WhatsApp for Mac Adds Video & Audio Group Calling

WhatsApp has introduced a native application for macOS, delivering group calling functionality to Apple’s desktop operating system.

This app enables group video calls for a maximum of eight participants and accommodates audio calls with up to 32 individuals, all benefiting from the same end-to-end encryption found in the app across other platforms.

Furthermore, it permits users to effortlessly move and drop files into their chats.

The company highlights that the app now presents an increased chat history. The user interface (UI) has been meticulously crafted to resonate with Mac users, catering to the expansive display of desktop computers.

This new design draws notable inspiration from macOS’ built-in Messages application, as evidenced in a screenshot provided.

Users can obtain the app by directly downloading it from WhatsApp, though Meta has stated that it will soon be accessible through the macOS App Store.

On a separate note, WhatsApp is currently developing a feature that will enable users to share photos and videos in their original, uncompressed quality.

This development was noticed by WABetaInfo, which found an option in the version 2.23.18.12 beta of WhatsApp for Android that allows users to “select original quality photos or videos.” These media files will be treated as documents within the app.

The app‘s document picker will have a new “choose from gallery” option, specifying the capability to send photos and videos in their original quality.

Previously, sending media in original quality required a workaround involving changing the file extensions to formats like PDF or DOC. However, this new feature eliminates the need for that process.
