In a significant development, Morocco’s Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, engaged in discussions with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF held in Marrakech.

The talks were attended by Morocco’s Central Bank Governor, Abdelatif Jouahri, Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, and the Minister Delegate in Charge of Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa.

The annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF, which began in Marrakech, brought together a select group of economists and financial experts from around the world to discuss major challenges related to financing policies, economic growth, and climate change.

This global event, held in Africa after an absence of nearly 50 years, signifies the confidence of the Bretton Woods institutions in Morocco’s capabilities. It sheds light on Morocco’s significant achievements under the leadership of King Mohammed VI in various fields.

The event gathers finance ministers and central bank governors from 190 countries and provides an opportunity to amplify Africa’s voice and that of southern countries. It also highlights Morocco’s steadfast commitment to African nations. This event allows global financial and banking elites to address and approach the issues and challenges facing southern countries, particularly those related to Africa.

The agenda of the annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF includes presentations on the outlook of the global economy. Additionally, there will be numerous parallel meetings addressing critical issues such as the energy crisis, climate challenges, migration, international cooperation, post-COVID-19 recovery, and updates on political and economic developments on the international stage.
