Morocco’s Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, and his Belgian counterpart, Alexander De Croo, have urged for a ceasefire in Gaza and the initiation of a peace process enabling Palestinians to establish their state.
This call came in a joint statement following the conclusion of the third session of the Joint High Committee between the two countries in Rabat.
Akhannouch stated that Morocco supports the justice of the Palestinian cause, the delivery of aid, and the initiation of a peace process that enables the establishment of the Palestinian state, with the necessity of a ceasefire.
The same government official noted that Rabat and Brussels share the same positions on international and regional issues, adding that during this session, both countries continued their contribution to resolving outstanding issues.
Akhannouch highlighted Rabat’s appreciation for Brussels’ support for the autonomy plan for the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
On the other hand, the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, considered the meeting an opportunity to enhance political dialogue and build a strong partnership in various fields. He stated that they have signed agreements in several areas that will contribute to upgrading their relations.
The Belgian official emphasized that Brussels needs green hydrogen, and Morocco plays a significant role in the energy transition field.
He discussed cooperation in the security field and also migration areas. He also discussed Morocco’s hydrogen offer, which represents an important opportunity. He further stated that they have the same stance on the war in Gaza, as they want two states, including Palestine, to live there in peace, with the release of hostages and a ceasefire.
The same official considered that Morocco is an important partner for the European Union, and on the issue of the Sahara, they support its position on autonomy as a fundamental solution.
