Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah is set to exit the current Pharaohs team in Cote d’Ivoire to continue his recovery at his Premier League club in England, as confirmed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
Salah experienced a hamstring injury during Egypt’s 2-2 match against Ghana in the Nations Cup Group stage last Thursday. The Egyptian team’s physician has indicated that Salah, a key player for Liverpool, requires roughly a week of treatment.
The EFA stated on its Facebook page that following additional assessments and discussions between the medical teams of both the EFA and Liverpool, it has been agreed that Salah will return to England after Egypt’s match against Cape Verde to proceed with his rehabilitation.
The EFA also noted that Salah would rejoin the Egyptian team if they advance to the semi-finals.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s coach, disclosed on Sunday that there are ongoing discussions with Egypt regarding Salah’s return to England for his recovery.
Speaking after Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth, Klopp mentioned that while the decision is not finalized, it seems logical for Salah to undergo his rehabilitation with Liverpool‘s medical team.
Klopp, who had spoken to Salah shortly after the injury, remains in the loop through Liverpool’s doctor. He expressed hope for Salah’s return, though the exact timeline is uncertain.
Klopp also suggested that the player might rejoin the Egyptian team for the final if they qualify and he is fit by then.
Egypt faces a critical match against Cape Verde on Monday, needing a win to secure a place in the round of 16. Currently, Egypt is second in their group, trailing the group leader, Cape Verde, by four points.
