Meteorological experts have warned of the weather conditions in the coming hours as a Saharan Khamsin depression affects the country today.
The depression brings with it strong winds carrying sand and dust, currently stirred up in northeast Libya, increasing in strength and now moving towards the north of the Western Desert, Sallum, and Marsa Matruh.
The meteorological experts added that it is expected to continue advancing to cover all of Northern Egypt and even North Upper Egypt as the day progresses into Wednesday evening and by Thursday morning, the sand and dust will advance to Central and South Upper Egypt.
The peak of wind activity is expected from the afternoon until the evening, thereby increasing the stirring of sand and dust and facilitating their faster movement.
The Meteorological Authority has urged citizens not to be misled by the current spring season, which is known for its sharp and rapid weather changes due to varying air masses and heat waves carrying Khamsin winds during this season.
Meteorological experts advised against direct exposure to sunlight, especially as maximum temperatures today, Wednesday, are expected to reach around 37 degrees Celsius in the south of the country, 33 degrees Celsius in Cairo, and 31 degrees Celsius in the coastal governorates.
The meteorological experts also mentioned that the weather at night would be cool, particularly in the early morning, advising against wearing summer clothing to prevent colds.
Furthermore, citizens, especially the elderly and those with sinus and respiratory allergies, are advised during this time of the year to wear masks, securely close windows, and avoid standing in open areas for long periods to prevent inhaling dust.
The recent meteorological updates have highlighted significant weather phenomena affecting the Middle East, particularly due to the Khamsin winds, which are common in the spring. These winds bring large amounts of sand and dust from the Sahara, affecting air quality and visibility across the region, including Egypt and its neighbors like Libya. These conditions are exacerbated by the ongoing climatic changes that have seen the region face varying extreme weather conditions ranging from severe droughts to flooding, influenced by broader climate change impacts.
