One of the personal bodyguards accompanying Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani died, and another was injured in a road accident involving the presidential convoy while returning from the border crossing between Mauritania and Algeria.

The independent Mauritanian News Agency reported that the accident occurred as the delegation was returning from the border crossing between Mauritania and Algeria towards the city of Tindouf, after its inauguration by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

It was noted that the body of the deceased guard, as well as the injured guard, were transported to a hospital in Tindouf, awaiting a plane to transfer the body and the injured to Nouakchott later.

The Mauritanian presidential delegation left the city of Tindouf on Thursday evening, returning to Nouakchott after a visit that lasted several hours, witnessed the inauguration of projects, and the laying of the foundation stone by the Mauritanian and Algerian presidents.

On Thursday in Tindouf, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, inaugurated the two permanent border crossings between Algeria and Mauritania.

According to the Algerian Press Service, the presidents were briefed on a detailed presentation about the activity of these crossings and the project to construct a road linking the two countries.

The Algerian side of the border crossing includes all necessary facilities and is expected to generate economic activity between the two countries, enhancing development in the border areas.
