In a show of solidarity, the Lithuanian Navy delivered a vital shipment of radar equipment to its Ukrainian counterparts this Tuesday, aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s maritime surveillance capabilities. This generous assistance was provided in response to a formal request from Ukraine, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas emphasized the significance of this support, stating, “This support will enhance Ukraine’s ability to monitor the sea and better understand the situation… This is important for the protection of its territorial waters and the safety of its citizens.”
Earlier this year, Lithuania had announced a substantial military assistance package for Ukraine, marking the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. This package included a remarkable contribution of 1.5 million pieces of ammunition.
Lithuania’s Ministry of Defense reiterated its commitment to supporting Ukraine in various ways, including active involvement in military training, medical aid for the wounded, provision of expert counsel, and financial support for international programs aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s capabilities.
Looking ahead, Lithuania has planned a substantial allocation of €200 million to support Ukraine for the period 2024-2026, further cementing the partnership between the two nations.
Moreover, a coalition of Lithuanian civil society initiatives has also played a significant role in aiding Ukraine, successfully raising millions of euros through fundraising campaigns. These funds have been directed towards the purchase of essential equipment, such as weapons for Bayraktar TB UAVs and electronic warfare stations for air defense, underlining the depth of commitment from various sectors of Lithuanian society towards Ukraine’s security and stability.
