Libyan House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh met with Stephanie Khoury, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in Qubbah today.

According to House spokesperson Abdullah Blaiheg, the discussions focused on the latest developments in Libya, particularly concerning the Central Bank of Libya (CBL).

Blaiheg highlighted the necessity of stabilizing conditions to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the country’s paramount financial institution and the initiation of forming a new board for the Central Bank in accordance with existing legislation.

The meeting also underscored the urgent need for all parties to intensify efforts to revive the political process, aiming for a consensus to unify the executive authority and establish a unified government.

This effort is part of the broader goal to expedite the organization of upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Saleh reaffirmed the House’s ongoing cooperation and communication with the UN mission and the international community, committing to the political agreement and the outcomes of the 6+6 committee, which are essential for ending political division and realizing Libyan aspirations for organizing presidential and parliamentary elections.

For her part, Khoury emphasized her continued and serious efforts to rebuild trust among various parties by harmonizing viewpoints.

Earlier this month, the lender announced a suspension of all operations following the abduction of a senior official on Sunday.

The bank stated it would not resume activities until the release of Musab Muslim, the Director of Information Technology, who an unidentified group kidnapped.

The Central Bank condemned the illegal methods employed by certain parties and highlighted that other officials had also received threats of abduction.

The bank emphasized that it would not restart its functions until the Muslim is freed, his return to work is ensured, and such practices are halted with the intervention of relevant authorities.
