Stephanie Khoury, Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), engaged in discussions with members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to address the current political, security, and economic impasse.

During a meeting on Thursday, Khoury met with the elected members of the Libyan Contact Committee between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The discussions focused on advancing a Libyan-led political process facilitated by the UN with international support.

The meeting also covered the fragile security situation, ongoing human rights concerns, and economic conditions, emphasizing the importance of accountability and good governance of state resources.

Khoury noted that committee members expressed their commitment to working with UNSMIL to involve all Libyan stakeholders.

The political process in Libya is currently stalled, despite Khoury’s efforts to bring Libyan factions to the negotiating table to resolve electoral disputes. In recent weeks, Khoury has met with key figures, including the Head of the Presidential Council Mohamed Al-Mnifi, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, Head of the High Council of State Mohamed Takala in Tripoli, as well as Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqeela Saleh, and General-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar.

These discussions have focused on various political and economic issues.
