The Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, met with the newly appointed Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Guven Begec, in Tripoli on Tuesday evening.

This meeting marked the beginning of Ambassador Begec’s tenure in Libya and highlighted the continued strong ties between the two nations.

According to the media office of the GNU, Ambassador Begec reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the Libyan Government of National Unity.

He emphasized Turkey’s commitment to collaborating with Libya to facilitate the implementation of practical laws for conducting parliamentary and presidential elections.

During the meeting, both parties discussed various aspects of economic and security cooperation.

They reviewed the outcomes of a recent meeting between Prime Minister Dbaiba and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

The discussion focused on leveraging the Turkish embassy and related institutions to follow up on agreements and enhance bilateral relations.

Libya and Turkey have a long-standing relationship that has seen significant developments in recent years, particularly in the areas of economic and security cooperation.

Turkey has been a key supporter of the GNU, providing military and logistical support during the Libyan civil conflict. This support was crucial in the GNU’s efforts to stabilize the country and push back against rival factions.

The two countries have signed several agreements aimed at boosting economic ties, including deals in the energy, construction, and infrastructure sectors.

Turkish companies have been involved in various projects in Libya, contributing to the country’s reconstruction efforts.

Security cooperation has also been a critical component of the Libya-Turkey relationship. Turkey’s assistance has included military training and the provision of defense equipment, which has helped the GNU strengthen its security apparatus amidst ongoing challenges.

The recent meeting between Dbaiba and Erdogan in Ankara further solidified these ties, focusing on the strategic partnership between the two nations and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
