Libya called on the International Court of Justice to immediately and unconditionally halt “the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the West Bank.”
Ahmed Al-Jehani, the Libyan envoy to The Hague, affirmed “the Palestinian people’s right to resistance,” considering “the occupation that has extended for six decades as a blatant violation of humanitarian obligations according to the United Nations laws and international customs.”
Al-Jehani stated that “the provisions of international humanitarian law that mandate the protection of civilians apply to the court’s deliberations,” pointing out that “the occupation’s crimes amount to genocide.”
He also urged all countries not to “support the occupation and to compel it not to displace Palestinians,” appealing to the United Nations “to consider any additional measures to end the occupation without delay or procrastination.”
Al-Jehani added: “The occupying power has deprived Palestinians of their right to self-determination and is attempting to eliminate that right while escalating its practices that have prevented the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
He noted that “the Israeli occupation is continuing its measures aimed at annexing Jerusalem and persisting in its apartheid regime against Arabs, depriving them of basic rights.”
Earlier, the International Court of Justice demanded Israel take all necessary actions to prevent “genocide” in Gaza, during public sessions held based on a lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel.
