Libya’s Minister of Transportation, Mohamed Salem Al-Shahoubi, from the interim Government of National Unity, has confirmed that the Jordanian Royal Airlines and Qatar Airways will resume flights to and from Libya this month.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the head of the interim government, according to Libya’s Al-Wasat news portal.

In his remarks, Al-Shahoubi highlighted ongoing discussions with Saudi Arabian Airlines to restart its operations to and from Libya, indicating a potential expansion of international flight options for the country.

This information was disclosed on the “Our Government” platform and shared via its Facebook page.

The meeting addressed several important topics related to civil aviation and air transport, including the plans of the Airport Authority to activate local airports, procure necessary equipment, and follow up on the Civil Aviation Authority’s actions regarding the opening of new international destinations.

The efforts are part of a broader strategy to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization’s requirements to lift the freeze on Libyan airports.

These developments are seen as crucial steps toward enhancing Libya’s connectivity with the world, boosting economic and tourism prospects, and signalling a gradual return to normalcy in the country’s aviation sector.

In March 2024, Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Turkey, resumed its flight services to Libya after a hiatus of a decade.

Bilal Eksi, the CEO of Turkish Airlines, emphasized the airline’s intention to develop further its relationships within Africa, where it currently serves 62 destinations.
