The Libyan Coast Guard successfully rescued 278 illegal migrants of various nationalities in two separate operations on Thursday.
The rescued individuals were handed over to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency.
The Ministry of Interior of the Temporary National Unity Government shared this information on their official Facebook page.
In the first operation, a patrol from the General Administration of Coastal Security on the boat “300 Wadi Ka’am” rescued 199 illegal migrants, including men, women, and children of different nationalities. They were found aboard a dilapidated boat in the regional waters.
The Ministry confirmed their immediate rescue and disembarkation at the Shu’ab Port point, affiliated with the Coastal Security in Tripoli, and they were handed over to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency for necessary legal actions.
In the second operation, members of the Coastal Guard and Port Security Point in Mellitah rescued 79 illegal migrants from the sea after they had been stranded for two days.
The Ministry indicated that these migrants were handed over to the Security Directorate in Sabratha, and legal procedures were initiated against them before they were transferred to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency.
