The Libyan national basketball team has successfully qualified for the semifinals of the 25th Arab Basketball Championship, currently being held in Cairo.
This achievement came following their impressive victory over the Kuwaiti team with a score of 89 to 76. The win sets the stage for a high-stakes matchup with the Tunisian team, which advanced after defeating Somalia.
In another exciting semifinal pairing, the Egyptian and UAE teams will face off. Egypt made it through after a win against Mauritania, while the UAE team secured their spot by overcoming Algeria.
The Libyan team, also known as the Knights of Libya, topped their group with a perfect record, securing victories in all three of their matches against Mauritania, Algeria, and Somalia.
The Libyan team’s coach, Fouad Abu Shaqra, praised the Kuwaiti team for their remarkable performance, noting their cohesiveness and the fact that about seven of their players are teammates in the Kuwaiti club.
In a statement released on the Arab Basketball Federation’s Facebook page, Abu Shaqra highlighted the medical team’s efforts in physically preparing the Libyan team for the upcoming match against Tunisia on Tuesday.
Coach Abu Shaqra also commended the Libyan fans in Egypt for their support and encouraged them to attend the next game to back the team.
He anticipates a challenging match against Tunisia, promising an intense and competitive game.
