Libya was elected as a titular member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO), representing Africa for the term from 2024 to 2027, during the 112th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva.

This candidacy reflects Libya’s ongoing efforts to enhance its role on the international stage and to improve the conditions of work and workers within the country. It also highlights Libya’s commitment to supporting labor issues at both the African and international levels, which contributes to the enhancement of cooperation and exchange of expertise among the member states of the International Labour Organization.

Libya’s attainment of this position strengthens its ability to actively participate in the formulation of international labor policies and support efforts to improve working conditions in Africa and globally.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) recently held its 350th Governing Body session, where several significant decisions regarding labor issues were discussed. This included a focus on living wages and initiatives to enhance social justice, as well as the establishment of a Working Party on the New Social Contract. The meeting also emphasized international cooperation through the Global Coalition for Social Justice and tackled specific labor conditions in various global contexts, such as the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Myanmar
