The Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund, under the leadership of Belqasem Haftar, signed several contracts with Egypt’s construction giant, Arab Contractors, headed by Ahmed El-Assar.

These agreements with Egypt aim to kickstart new projects in various Libyan cities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Haftar highlighted the initial projects including the construction of bridges in Tobruk.

“Today marks the beginning with two contracts signed for Tobruk bridges. This is just the start; we have several other infrastructure, roadwork, and construction projects lined up,” Haftar explained.

He further confirmed the upcoming contract signing for the road connecting Tobruk and Musaid, emphasizing ongoing negotiations with multiple companies to develop Libya’s eastern entrance.

Haftar also addressed the previous failures of certain companies in Eastern Libyan projects.

“The government had contracted companies which turned out to be incompetent.

They were unable to complete even 30% of the work after more than a year, with the work not meeting the required specifications,” he stated.

Praising the Egyptian companies’ role in rebuilding Benghazi and Derna, Haftar expressed satisfaction with their significant contributions to Egypt, which he believes equips them with the expertise and efficiency to handle new projects in Libya.

Southwest Libya is experiencing heavy rains that have led to floods sweeping down from the Tadrart Acacus and Tassili mountains into nearby urban areas.

Hassan Osman Issa, the official spokesperson for the Ghat Emergency Room, confirmed that floods have reached the Joufari area of the Barkat Municipality, prompting local authorities to evacuate families.

Issa told Sky News Arabia that the armed forces and rescue teams responded immediately to a distress call from the village of Tazrouk, near the Algerian border.
