The Libyan Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced the establishment of joint mechanisms to address the challenges of bilateral trade with Egypt.
This declaration came via a statement posted on the ministry’s official Facebook page.
The statement highlighted that Shadhr Al-Said, the Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Commerce, reached an agreement with Amani Al-Wasal, the Head of Foreign Trade at Egypt’s Ministry of Commerce.
Their consensus centered on addressing the bilateral trade challenges and eliminating obstacles faced by freight owners, merchants, and citizens at the “Emsaad – Salloum” border crossing, as reported by the Libyan “Al-Wasat” website.
This pivotal meeting took place in Egypt’s new administrative capital this past Sunday.
Both parties emphasized the imperative to execute previously signed agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the two nations.
Adding to this, the Head of Foreign Trade at Egypt’s Ministry of Commerce stated that Libya remains one of Egypt’s most vital trading partners.
She also assured that the Egyptian ministry would consider the prior permissions imposed on some Libyan goods and commodities.
Last month, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi unveiled plans to upgrade the Sallum land border crossing with Libya. The project aimed to facilitate trade movement between the two countries.
El-Sisi mentioned that Egypt has been working on the development of the Sallum project for the past four years.
He pointed out that the region is witnessing significant progress through the projects being implemented.
