Musa Al-Koni, a member of Libya’s Presidential Council, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the special session on Africa-China cooperation within the framework of the BRICS summit.
The two officials agreed to bolster strategic and economic cooperation, paving the way for the return of Chinese companies to the African country as part of a future-oriented comprehensive partnership for mutual development.
Al-Koni highlighted that the council member emphasized the important role China can play in supporting his country’s efforts towards achieving stability. He also underlined the urgency of expediting reconstruction projects and facilitating the resumption of operations for Chinese companies that have had to suspend their work in the country.
The Libyan diplomat pointed out that China’s support would send a “strong and reassuring message to all global companies about the achieving stability that is increasingly evident in Libya”. He also recognized the African and neighboring countries’ efforts, along with Europe, in this regard.
The politician stressed to the Chinese President that Libya’s reconstruction projects could significantly benefit from Chinese expertise.
He lauded China’s economic model, which has enabled the country to achieve exceptional growth and transition to a global level at an extraordinary pace, as a “model worthy of emulation.”
On his part, President Xi expressed his interest in enhancing Sino-Libyan relations in line with strategic and economic prospects that align with the new global economic grouping, “BRICS.”
Xi assured Al-Koni that “anticipated prospects for creative cooperation will not be delayed.” He also promised to instruct Chinese companies to resume their operations in Libya and support the country’s reconstruction efforts.
