Lebanese security authorities evacuated a town in northern Lebanon of Syrian displaced persons after warnings were issued to return the properties they occupied to their Lebanese owners.
The General Directorate of State Security stated in a release, “In compliance with decisions of the Lebanese government, and following warnings previously directed by the Directorate of State Security in the North to Syrian displaced persons in the town of Kafr Habou in Donniyah to evacuate the properties they occupied and return them to their Lebanese owners, patrols from the State Security conducted the evacuation of all illegal Syrian displaced persons in the town, and the homes of those who refused to comply with the decision were sealed with red wax.”
It is noted that Syrian refugees entered Lebanon since 2011 randomly and through both legal and illegal crossings, spreading in camps and rented apartments across most Lebanese areas. In its effort to regulate the presence of Syrians in Lebanon, the Ministry of Interior tasked provinces and municipalities to count the Syrian displaced persons within their areas, enforce strict measures regarding their residence and employment, and submit bi-monthly reports on the actions taken to suppress violations and remove infringements.
In recent months, the General Security intensified its campaigns and actions aimed at addressing the parallel economy and Syrian violations in the fields of labor and residence, leading to the arrest of thousands and the closure of hundreds of violating establishments.
