The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced the departure of the first plane from the Kuwaiti air bridge, carrying 10 tons of protective supplies and tents to Port Sudan Airport.

This initiative aims to support and relieve displaced individuals in Sudan amidst ongoing conflicts and severe rain and floods.

Anwar Al-Hasawi, Vice President of the Society, stated on Wednesday that this aid flight is part of the “Kuwait Stands with You” campaign and follows directives from the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The effort reflects Kuwait’s solidarity with those affected in Sudan and their commitment to alleviating their suffering.

Al-Hasawi highlighted that the plane carries essential protective gear and tents designed to assist Sudan during its current humanitarian crisis.

He pointed out the severe rainfall in Sudan, which has submerged entire villages and caused the collapse of numerous homes, emphasizing the importance of supporting Sudanese people during these challenging times.

Switzerland is set to host ceasefire talks on Wednesday, focusing on the ongoing conflict in Sudan, under the mediation of the United States. Despite uncertainties surrounding the participation of the Sudanese military, the U.S. is determined to proceed with the discussions.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, with a war between the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. This conflict has brought the nation to the brink of famine.

In late July, the U.S. urged both warring factions to engage in a new round of negotiations set to begin on Wednesday, aiming to end the nearly 16-month-long destructive war. The U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, stated that the RSF has unconditionally agreed to participate.
