Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued a royal decree on Thursday appointing Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as the Prime Minister of Kuwait and entrusted him with nominating members of the new cabinet.
Here is a brief biography of Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah:
Born in 1955, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Claremont College in California and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in the United States.
He held various positions, including being a teaching assistant in the Economics Department at the College of Commerce, Economics, and Political Science at Kuwait University between 1979 and 1985. Later, he was appointed as a professor in the same department in 1985.
He was seconded to the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research from 1987 to 1988.
Appointed as Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States in 1993 and served in that position until he was appointed as the State Minister for Foreign Affairs on February 14, 2001.
On July 14, 2003, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in an acting capacity.
On February 9, 2006, he was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and was reappointed to the same positions in July 2006, March 2007, in the cabinet reshuffle in October 2007, and in May 2008.
On January 12, 2009, he was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Oil in an acting capacity.
On May 29, 2009, he was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
On May 8, 2011, he was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and continued in the position until October 2011.
