Today, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, discussed the dire situation in Gaza and the role of UN agencies in carrying out their humanitarian tasks in the region.

During their meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace, in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty stressed the immediate and urgent need for the international community to act to mitigate the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

His Majesty emphasized Jordan’s utmost efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza through all available means, both by land and air, and its close coordination with various UN organizations and many countries worldwide to enhance the humanitarian response.

The importance of continuing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was underscored to enable it to provide humanitarian services according to its UN mandate, especially given the deteriorating conditions in Gaza.

King Abdullah reiterated the significance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, allowing its residents to return to their homes.

His Majesty emphasized Jordan’s rejection of the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, warning against the violence perpetrated by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and His Majesty’s Office Director, Jaafar Hassan.
