Germany has committed €11.3 million in financing for the execution of a pivotal sanitation project in Al-Jubeiha, Amman. This was confirmed on Sunday when the Ministry of Water and Irrigation signed an agreement with the United Projects Company, UEC, in coalition with Gamma Contractors.
The project aims to serve new residential clusters in the Al-Jubeiha area, with a primary objective of protecting these regions from pollution. By reducing methane emissions, it ensures public health and environmental preservation. Remarkably, 90% of the project’s funding is from the German Development Bank, KFW, and the remaining 10% is provided by the Water Authority. This initiative is part of the NEXUS project, targeting environmental betterment and broadening sanitation services.
Expressing gratitude, the Minister of Water and Irrigation praised the support of nations, international institutions, donors, and particularly the European Union and Germany through the KFW. He underscored that the project would be efficiently executed without the need to construct lift stations, which will result in a substantial decrease in operation and maintenance costs.
Engineer Wael Al-Dweiri, Assistant for Sanitation Affairs in the Ministry, detailed that the venture includes the installation of a 6.5-kilometer transmission line connected to the Shafa Badran transmission line. This is in addition to the supply and execution of various diameter cement and DIP lines stretching around 34.5 kilometers, and 10 kilometers of sanitation lines and household connections to cater to 1,000 housing units in the northern Amman/Al-Jubeiha region within an estimated 18 months.
Identified as a pioneering project executed in line with the latest global specifications, it is anticipated to accommodate the region’s urban expansions in the coming years. By 2040, it is expected to serve over 2,400 housing units.
