In a landmark development on this Saturday, the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority inked a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with their Italian counterparts, solidifying a strategic alliance in the realm of civil aviation.

The primary objective of this memorandum is to foster collaboration in civil aviation and air transport, with a specific emphasis on streamlining operations for air transport companies conducting charter and regular flights between the two nations. Both parties have committed to formalizing a comprehensive air transport agreement at a later juncture.

The signing ceremony, held at the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, saw the participation of Mohamed Mohamed Šlebek, the head of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, and Pierluigi De Palma, leading the Italian civil aviation authorities.

In a concurrent development, Italy and Libya marked a significant milestone by reinstating commercial flights after a hiatus of a decade, as confirmed by authorities in the Libyan capital. The inaugural flight, designated as MT522 and operated by Libyan carrier Medsky Airways, departed from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli bound for Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport.

Mitiga International Airport authorities disclosed that a return flight was scheduled to touch down in Tripoli later on Saturday. Going forward, a regular schedule of one round-trip flight between the Libyan and Italian capitals has been established, with flights operating on both Saturdays and Wednesdays, as announced by Mitiga airport authorities. This resurgence in air connectivity signifies a significant step in enhancing diplomatic and economic ties between Italy and Libya.
