The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the commencement of the “Strategic Dialogue between Italy and Algeria” at its Farnesina Palace headquarters.

This mechanism for bilateral consultations is gaining increasing significance in strengthening the partnership between Rome and Algiers.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani highlighted, “Algeria is a natural partner for Italy, both economically and politically,” expressing Italy’s intent to increasingly bolster cooperation with the southern Mediterranean to jointly address shared challenges.

Minister Tajani underscored that “dialogue with Algeria is essential to encourage de-escalation in the Middle East and contribute to stabilizing the entire region.”

According to a ministry memo, the Italian and Algerian delegations engaged in three dedicated working groups focusing on political and security cooperation, economic cooperation, the Mattei Plan for Africa, and lastly, bilateral cooperation on technical and cultural issues.

“At the end of the work session, chaired by Secretary-General Riccardo Guariglia and his Algerian counterpart, Louns Magremane, a summary document was signed providing practical indicators on the continuation of enhancing bilateral relations,” the ministry stated.

The document particularly stressed the importance of enhancing political and security cooperation to transform the Mediterranean basin into a zone of peace and dialogue.

The memo from Farnesina Palace concluded, “Guariglia and Magremane also had a fruitful bilateral conversation on the sidelines of the strategic dialogue to delve deeper into various topics covered by the agenda.”
