The European Olympic Committee unanimously announced on Wednesday Istanbul’s selection to host the fourth European Games in 2027. This multisport event, first organized in 2015, marks the fifth continental games following the Asian, Pan American, Pacific, and African Games.
Spiridon Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committee, stated, “Istanbul and Turkey have long been close friends of international sports.” He added, “Istanbul will be the perfect venue for Europe’s finest athletes to shine in 2027.”
Istanbul will utilize existing infrastructure without constructing new venues for the games. The Executive Committee will present its decision to the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee in June for final approval.
Murat Aksu, President of the Turkish Paralympic Committee, stated last year that hosting the 2027 European Games is part of Turkey’s efforts to win the right to host both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
