In a significant development, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have revealed the discovery of more than 800 tunnel shafts in the Gaza Strip since the initiation of the ground offensive in late October, as reported by The Times of Israel.
IDF troops, actively engaged in the operation, have successfully rendered approximately 500 of these tunnels inoperative through a combination of controlled explosions and sealing measures.
The military’s focus extends beyond eliminating individual tunnel shafts, with claims of the destruction of extensive tunnel networks spanning hundreds of kilometers, according to The Times of Israel.
These tunnels, deemed crucial links to what the IDF refers to as Hamas “strategic assets,” are being systematically dismantled.
Addressing the situation, IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, Lt Col Avichay Adraee, issued a stern warning to the targeted Shejaiya battalion of Hamas through a post on X.
Adraee, underscoring the IDF’s commitment to dismantling Hamas’s infrastructure in the Shejaiya neighborhood, presented the targeted battalion with two options: surrender and disarm or face consequences similar to Wissam Farhat, the Shejaiya battalion commander killed in a recent Israeli airstrike.
