A senior officer in the Israeli military has indicated that even if Israel achieves its objectives in the ongoing conflict with Gaza, residents of the Gaza Envelope may still face the threat of rocket attacks for years to come.

Israeli Army Radio quoted informed sources stating that while ground combat and maneuvers may diminish Hamas’s military capabilities in the Gaza Strip, the possibility of sporadic rocket attacks towards the Gaza Envelope remains. The sources emphasized that even after the conflict concludes, the firing of rockets into the area is expected to persist.

Additionally, a senior Israeli military officer suggested that, even two years from now, residents of the Gaza Envelope may still experience the sounding of sirens, underscoring the enduring nature of the security challenge.

In a related context, former Israeli Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan remarked that the disarmament of Gaza would be a prolonged process, describing the extension of the state of emergency as a means for Prime Minister Netanyahu to evade legal challenges. Golan also suggested that the current conflict serves Netanyahu’s political interests.

Several leaders in Israel have expressed skepticism about the achievability of stated objectives, including the release of captives and the “destruction of Hamas,” as declared by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Critics within Israel argue that these objectives may prove elusive.
