A man suspected of involvement in the deadly stabbing incident that occurred on Friday during a festival in Solingen, western Germany, was arrested on Saturday. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. The regional Interior Minister Herbert Reul confirmed this news.
Speaking to the public broadcaster ARD, the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia stated, “The man we had been searching for all day was detained a short while ago at our headquarters.” He added, “We have just arrested the real suspect,” confirming that there are “evidences” in the possession of the investigators.
Three people were killed and eight others were injured in the attack that took place on Friday evening during outdoor celebrations marking the 650th anniversary of the founding of Solingen, near Dusseldorf. The police launched extensive operations in search of the attacker. ISIS declared its responsibility for the attack on Saturday, which left Germany in shock.
Recent intelligence assessments indicate that ISIS continues to pose a significant threat in Europe, primarily through a resurgence of activities and strategic shifts in tactics. Analysts have noted that ISIS and similar extremist groups are increasingly planning and inciting attacks, with a focus on large gatherings and symbolic targets. This shift demonstrates an ongoing adaptability and intent to influence areas beyond their immediate geographical locations.
