Iran’s President, Ibrahim Raisi, has publicly expressed the country’s readiness to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. Simultaneously, he urged the United States to “quench the flames of conflict by ceasing weapon sales and supplies.”
While visiting New York to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Raisi remarked on the recurrent allegations against Iran regarding weapon sales to Russia during the Ukrainian conflict. Despite Iran’s open call for any official evidence on this matter, Ukraine has yet to furnish any relevant documents.
Raisi firmly asserted that Iran has not supplied weapons to Russia. On the contrary, he highlighted how the US is “flooding” Ukraine with weapons, even supplying them with “depleted uranium.”
Western claims allege that Iran has been providing Russia with drones; however, both Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly denied these allegations. Iran has described accusations regarding the supposed use of Iranian drones in the Ukrainian conflict as baseless and devoid of truth.
This recent development underscores Iran’s attempt to take on a mediating role in global affairs while addressing controversies surrounding its international actions.
