The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed hope for the resumption of negotiations between the Yemeni “Ansar Allah” group and Saudi Arabia in the near future, aiming to overcome the current delicate situation.
Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, stated in an interview with the “Al-Masirah” channel that the Islamic Republic of Iran will respect any decision made by the Yemeni people.
He emphasized that no state should interfere in Yemen’s internal affairs, asserting that the Yemeni people themselves determine their destiny.
Khaji expressed Tehran’s readiness to assist in peace negotiations, lay the foundation for reconciliation, and address humanitarian issues in Yemen. He called for the lifting of the blockade on Yemen.
Iran firmly rejects the involvement of foreign powers in Yemen’s internal matters.
Khaji highlighted that the presence of foreign forces in Yemen has not contributed any services to the Yemeni people but rather led to killing, destruction, and terrorism within the country. He urged for the withdrawal of foreign military forces from Yemen.
The Yemeni “Ansar Allah” group recently announced arrangements for a new round of talks with the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, mediated by Oman. This round is deemed crucial, particularly concerning humanitarian matters.
Mehdi al-Mashat, the head of the Supreme Political Council affiliated with the “Ansar Allah” group in Yemen, earlier emphasized that the current situation, marked by ongoing aggression, blockade, and famine, is no longer acceptable.
In April, an Omani delegation sponsored talks in Sana’a between the Yemeni “Ansar Allah” group and an official Saudi delegation led by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed al-Jaber. These talks lasted for six days, focusing on humanitarian matters, ceasefire, and initiating a comprehensive Yemeni political process.
Since September 2014, the “Ansar Allah” group has controlled the majority of provinces in central and northern Yemen, including the capital Sana’a.
In response, an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched military operations on March 26, 2015, in support of the Yemeni army to recapture these areas from the group’s control.
