In a collaborative effort, Jordan’s army, alongside Egypt, the US, and Germany, conducted five aid airdrops in the northern Gaza Strip, aiming to provide essential relief to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
Announced on Saturday, the Jordanian army revealed that two C130 aircraft from the Royal Jordanian Air Force participated in the airdrop operation. One of the aircraft specifically targeted a number of locations in the northern Gaza Strip, including the delivery of urgent medical aid to the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza.
Notably, one of the planes involved in the humanitarian assistance mission belonged to Egypt, while another belonged to the US. Additionally, Germany participated for the first time, marking its involvement in humanitarian aid delivery by air drop.
The decision for Germany’s participation coincided with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s anticipated visit to Jordan and Israel over the weekend, according to a previous statement from the German Foreign Ministry.
The Jordanian army emphasized that the operation was conducted in cooperation with the Sultanate of Brunei, demonstrating Jordan’s steadfast support for the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced its joint humanitarian assistance airdrop operation with the Jordanian army. This joint effort aimed to provide essential relief to civilians in northern Gaza affected by the ongoing conflict.
The combined operation included the provision of food by Jordan and the deployment of a US Air Force C-130 aircraft. A total of 16 375-pound bundles of rice, flour, milk, pasta, and canned food were dropped from the US C-130, contributing to life-saving humanitarian assistance in northern Gaza.
The Department of Defense’s humanitarian airdrops are part of ongoing efforts by the US and partner-nation governments to alleviate human suffering.
For more than two weeks, various Arab countries, including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain, have conducted joint operations to deliver food aid to the Gaza Strip, alongside similar operations carried out by the US.
The offensive launched by Israel in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7 has resulted in significant casualties and destruction in Gaza, with the humanitarian aid efforts aiming to mitigate the impact of the conflict on civilians.
