Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv on Friday for a significant visit aimed at strengthening economic, defense, and technological cooperation with Ukraine. During his visit, Modi is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with discussions expected to focus on deepening bilateral ties.
Analysts suggest that this visit could also signal India’s attempt to balance its international stance, particularly following perceptions of its alignment with Russia.
Upon arrival, Modi was welcomed by the Indian diaspora in Ukraine, who gathered to greet him with cheers of “Modi, Modi, Modi.” Ukrainian media reported that the Indian leader also engaged with these community members.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, described Modi’s visit as “historic” and expressed hope that India could play a crucial role in fostering a “just peace” between Ukraine and Russia, referencing Ukraine’s proposed peace formula.
