The Election Commission of Pakistan has dealt a blow to former Prime Minister Imran Khan by rejecting his nomination to run in the upcoming 2024 national elections in two constituencies.

According to both election commission officials and Mr. Khan’s media team, the rejection pertains to his nomination papers filed for the constituencies of Lahore and Mianwali.

In Lahore, Khan’s nomination was turned down due to his failure to register as a voter in the constituency, coupled with a prior conviction that disqualifies him from participating in the elections.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August following a three-year jail sentence on charges of unlawfully selling state gifts. The Islamabad trial court not only imposed the prison term but also disqualified him from engaging in politics for a five-year period, placing a ban on his political activities.

The former prime minister is currently entangled in over 170 legal cases, with charges ranging from contempt of court to accusations of terrorism and incitement of violence.
