Palestinian sources have informed that a delegation from Hamas is set to visit Cairo soon to discuss the release of detainees in Israeli prisons in exchange for prisoners held by Hamas. The delegation will also discuss the facilitation of aid and meeting the needs of Gaza’s residents.
Hamas’ Political Bureau member, Musa Abu Marzouq, spoke about an anticipated visit to Cairo as consultations reach advanced stages, expecting it to happen in the near future.
In this context, Cairo-based Palestinian affairs expert Ibrahim al-Darawi told “Okaz” that there’s ongoing communication between Cairo and Hamas officials regarding a prisoner swap deal. He revealed that Israel has requested Cairo’s intervention in this matter, especially after Israeli protests in front of Netanyahu’s residence and the Egyptian embassy in Tel Aviv, demanding Cairo’s intervention for the release of prisoners held by Hamas.
Meanwhile, a convoy of 60 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid reached the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, as reported by Cairo’s news channel, which announced the passage of 47 trucks loaded with a large quantity of medicines and medical supplies, prepared based on a request from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
On October 27, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Deputy, Lynn Hastings, announced that 74 trucks carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza residents arrived in the sector from Egypt since October 21, indicating the necessity to accelerate the aid volume at a rate of 10 to 20 trucks daily.
In turn, the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program, Cindy McCain, described the situation in the Gaza Strip as “catastrophic,” emphasizing that the aid delivered through the Rafah crossing is insufficient.
