The Italian newspaper “Il Journal” reported that the primary objective of the Group of Seven (G7), under the current Italian presidency, is to prevent the escalation and seek a swift end to the Gaza conflict.
This statement was made by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
According to the report, Tajani has initiated contacts for the upcoming G7 meeting, including a new phone call with United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, aiming to stabilize the situation in Gaza.
Tajani stated, “We are doing what is possible to reduce tension. It’s certainly not easy, and we are responsible for coordinating the actions of different countries to build peace and calm.”
Tajani had previously emphasized Italy’s ambition to play a “pivotal role” in the international political arena during its presidency of the G7, a group of the world’s major industrial economies.
Following Italy’s assumption of the rotating presidency from Japan, which will continue until the end of the year, he remarked that Italy would welcome allies from north to south to address major global issues, ranging from wars to climate change, and from Africa to artificial intelligence.
Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, during the United Nations (UN) +2 Food Systems Summit, highlighted that food security would be a “priority” on the Italian presidency’s agenda for the G7.
She recognized food security as a fundamental step in ensuring development, and economic growth and allowing people to remain on their lands.
Furthermore, Meloni pointed out at the Bletchley Park Summit in North London earlier in November that artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword. While it represents a significant opportunity for economic and industrial growth, it also carries substantial risks.
